About Turner Furniture

In 1951, founder Thomas Weekly and his son in law Art Turner opened a furniture store in downtown Avon Park. Weekly Furniture sold complete home furnishings including refrigerators, washers, and dryers. In 1954 the store name was changed from Weekly’s to Turner Furniture.  They were one of the first retailers in our area to sell television sets. At the time most households did not have television sets so at closing each night, they would turn a television towards the front window with the volume as high as it would go. Local folks would pull up chairs to watch the television programs through the window at night.

In 1957 Art along with his wife Marva built a larger store in Avon Park to accommodate a growing business. Art and Marva changed the business focus from appliances to concentrating on decorating and offering a good selection of top quality furniture and accessories. They focused on name brands such as La-Z-Boy, Serta Mattress, and many others. Turner Furniture was the first furniture store in the heartland area to sell draperies and window treatments.

In 1991 Wesley and Lisa Turner became the third generation owners of Turner Furniture. Wesley and Lisa continued to work and grow with the times. In 1998 they built the largest furniture showroom in Highlands County. They have continued to offer their customers the Best quality Best price selection of furniture and accessories.  In 2007 Turner Furniture opened the Turner Furniture Clearance Center and Distribution center in Avon Park.  This improved efficiency and quality control with product storage, prep, and delivery.  This was another big step in creating the best possible experience for all Turner Furniture customers.
